"Work Lessons From The Nursery"
by Joel Stock
All too often we excuse errors because, after all, doesn't everyone make mistakes? Of course. What do you expect?
You've seen many special programs, incentives, buzz-words, and catch-phrases — all with the intent of improving quality of workmanship and error reduction. How many have succeeded in being flashy, cute, and loaded with just the right letters of the alphabet? — Most of them.
How many of these have endured the test of measured results over a substantial period of time? Nearly none. Most were created at the desk of consultants who are eager to create and sell their books. Very few are born from experience — the experiences of true time in the trenches managing products, services, profits, workers, and the clock.
You don't need more of the same. You deserve straight talk. You need a bright and candid look at how to achieve an error free mentality in your group. And, this article is exactly what you need. It is a powerful and direct view that simplifies the understanding and approach for achieving error free work.
And so, here it is. Click to view [ Work Lessons From The Nursery ]. It's in PDF format. You can view it online, save it, and share it with colleagues and friends, or use it in a staff meeting.

When was the last time you were introduced to someone? While getting acquainted, did anyone say, “Well … I'm part of an Assembly Line!” Of course not. In today's buzzword-saturated-society who would say such a thing? Company managers and image consultants have viewed that type of work as lowly with no prestige.
The job of an Assembly Line Worker remains the same but the name has been face-lifted into such titles as Operator-Technicians, Engineering Extension Specialists, Equipment Controllers, Quality Implementers, Team Members, etc. Impressive? To bystanders, perhaps. But, not to Henry Ford.
Henry Ford didn't see a car, he saw an assembly line as being a sophisticated key to high quality repeatability, a direct link to successsful consumerism, and superb company profit margins. In 1920, if you were to say, "I'm part of an Assembly Line!" you would get raves and praises. Today, not so. That part of operations history is so far out of fashion that it opens a door for you so wide that you could drive a henry Ford Model A through it.
You see, Henry Ford really didn't make a Model A Ford, or any other "PRODUCT." for that matter. He focused on making a pattern, a recipe, a step-by-step building, a blending, a manufacture, an output, a realization of … a "something" which is now called a "PROCESS."
If you are wise … if you can quietly and effectively adapt much (not all) of the Ford mentality to your job, you can experience massive gains in most of your goals. And, in doing so, you can leave the sheek, title-driven bystanders in your Model A dust!

Leading a successful workforce brings unique benefits and special feelings of fulfillment. When you are that leader, you will experience a boost of self-confidence that spills into other areas of life — family, community, friends, and co-workers.
None of this is a temporary flash in a hot pan. When you learn advanced skills you will have the solid foundation you need. Your capabilities will multiply and grow dramatically. But, it is important for you to return to this website and understand the things you need to know. Some things are obvious. Some things are complex and can only be explained by one having direct and first hand experience. Consider this education much like you would if you chose to learn to play a concert cello — give it dedicated attention.
You already know what will happen next. As you become more skilled your boss will give you increased latitude and appreciation. You will get more smiles "Thanks!" You will get new acknowledgements like, "Hey, I heard you did a great job!"
Now also, don't be suprised when you get other forms of appreciation that will be expressed through giving you more important responsibilities — not to give you an unfair burden, but because you can be trusted with important tasks. You will be growing and your attitude will change and improve. You will "radiate" sincere and humble confidence. You will be the one who will bring critical help just when your boss needs it.
This point is rarely taught — if ever. So, give it careful consideraton.
Your new and refined skills won't magically appear. Be patient. Read and re-read our articles. Ask questions. Joel Stock will give you complete and private attention. Do you want to learn them in person? You certainly can. You can have in-person mentoring, conversations with your group, or lectures to your entire staff.
So, what's in it for you?
Lots of hard work to advance your career.
Private as well as open recognition for your achievements.
Promotions & increased pay.
More complex & sensitive assignments.
Increased respect and appreciation by your subordinates and co-workers.
A career filled with new hope and reward.
In any case, be diligent and practice your skills. They will grow until you can tackle much more difficult problems, lead formidable projects, and give birth to much needed motivation for your subordinates. What are you waiting for … your concert hall is waiting.
Excellent quote.

How Management
Recognizes
Your Good Idea
"In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative original thinker unless you can also sell what you create. Management cannot be expected to recognize a good idea unless it is presented to them by a good salesman."
